GOP and Equality

Hopefully everyone out there had a fun and safe Labor Day weekend! Yesterday, the Republican National Convention kicked off in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Last week, as you may recall, we covered the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado.

Let's talk about the elephant in the room (no pun intended): while there are many anti-equality voices in the Republican Party, there are refreshingly many people who support marriage equality, adoptions for LGBT people and other LGBT-related issues.

A recent New York Times poll reveals that 49% of the GOP delegates support either gay marriage (6%) or civil unions (43%). Only 46% of the delegates believe there should be no legal recognition whatsoever of same-sex couples. It would certainly appear that times are changing in a very bipartisan way.

If there are any PFLAGers out there who are either at the convention now, or are following it, feel free to share your stories below in the comments section!
