On
Wednesday, February 8th, the Tennessee House K-12 Subcommittee will
hold a hearing on the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill (SB0049/HB0229),
which would prevent teachers and schools from discussing sexual orientation
other than heterosexuality. This endangers LGBT students by preventing them from accessing needed
information and resources, opening these students up to further bullying, harassment, and discrimination.
The bill potentially limits student access to
supportive teachers as well as library books that discuss LGBT issues or even
have LGBT characters.
THIS BILL WILL MAKE LGBT STUDENTS INVISIBLE.
